FAQs
What is a Montréal 2027 Worldcon membership?
A Montréal 2027 Worldcon attending membership is what allows you to physically go and participate in Worldcon. There are two components: a WSFS Membership and an Attending Membership. Montréal 2027 Worldcon provides a total price for both for your convenience but they are separate things with separate privileges.
The WSFS Membership is your required membership in the World Science Fiction Society (WSFS), an unincorporated literary society. Your WSFS Membership comes with voting rights in the Hugo Awards and Site Selection for the location of Worldcon in 2029, and if purchased before January 31, 2027, nomination rights for the Hugo Awards. The other component is an Attending Membership, which confers the right to attend the convention in person AND allows you to access our Virtual program offerings. Virtual memberships will be announced closer to the convention. Virtual memberships will be able to be bought separately from an Attending membership for those that choose to participate without being present.
WSFS memberships without an Attending Membership are available but cannot be used to attend the convention without purchasing the Attending Membership. This membership structure is provided by the WSFS Constitution.
What is a Mon Ami Membership?
A Mon Ami Montreal 2027 Worldcon attending membership is the same as an Adult Attending membership but includes a $130 donation to the Scholarship Fund to provide a membership to an individual who has been identified as being qualified to participate in the Montréal 2027 Worldcon Scholarship program. Learn more about the Scholarship fund.
What is a Montréal 2027 First Worldcon membership?
A Montréal 2027 Worldcon First Worldcon attending membership is a special discount membership for adults (31+) who have never previously attended a Worldcon In Person. If you have previously attended a Worldcon virtually that does not count as In Person attendance.
What currencies does Montréal 2027 Worldcon accept as payment?
All prices are in $ and all transactions are processed in Canadian dollars (symbol: $). We are unable to accept cheques or currencies other than Canadian.
How do I check my membership status?
You may already have a Montréal 2027 Worldcon membership if you purchased a site selection voting token from the Seattle Worldcon, or purchased a membership through our website. If you previously pre-supported the Montréal 2027 Worldcon bid at the Edge Case, Saw-Whet, Bon Vivant, or Ookpik level you can upgrade your membership to a full attending membership. If you previously pre-supported the Montréal 2027 Worldcon bid at the Ookpik level and voted you will have a full attending membership, but please use the portal to indicate your age, agree to the Code of Conduct, and make any changes. You can check your membership status using our membership portal at reg.montreal2027.ca
But I supported the bid at the Tundra Dwelling Lemming or Pre-Oppose level, what does that get me?
Thank you very much for your support of the bid. Your contribution helped with our bidding expenses. These levels were donations only and cannot be applied to a membership.
I have tried to login to check my membership and I can't get in. What do I do next?
"If you already have a Montréal 2027 account, you will need to login using the email used to set up your account. If someone else set up your account ONLY that person may be provided information to unlock your account for you. You will need to contact that person for assistance. If you cannot do so you will need to contact us at registration@montreal2027.ca for assistance. We will reach out via email for you, if appropriate, and encourage them to contact you. Other situations will be handled on a case-by-case basis as needed by Registration.
How Do I Upgrade or Add-On to My Existing Membership?
You can use the membership portal to upgrade your membership. The upgrade cost is the difference between the cost of your current membership level and the cost of the new membership at their current rates.
When Will The Other Categories Of Membership Be Available To Purchase?
We are working to set rates for other categories, including our virtual offerings and single day memberships. We plan to update these soon. Please check back for more information.
Why does Montréal 2027 Worldcon require an email address to be a member?
Montreal 2027 Worldcon does all membership communications via email. You must provide an email to the convention in order for us to communicate with you. This includes receipts for purchases, newsletter subscription requests and notifications when your WSFS events start.
I Would Like To Pay With Interac. Does The Convention Offer That?
Yes! We offer Interac. In order to properly track these payments we request that you email treasurer@montreal2027.ca, put “Interac” in the subject line and we’ll send you the routing information. Put everything you are purchasing in your cart(s) and then send your Interac payment. Interac payments are only available to individuals with Canadian bank accounts. Payment plans are not available using Interac to pay.
How Do Refunds And Transfers Work?
Generally speaking, Montréal 2027 Worldcon does not offer refunds. Exceptional circumstances will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Contact registration@montreal2027.ca for further assistance.
You may transfer your attending membership supplement to another person with a WSFS Membership. According to the WSFS Constitution, WSFS memberships are not transferable, so if the person does not already have a WSFS-Only membership, this membership must be purchased by or for the transferee. To transfer an attending membership, please email registration@Montreal2027.ca from the email address which is registered with the convention. The email should include:
- Your attending membership number and email (found on your dashboard in our membership system);
- The name and email address of the person to whom the Attending Supplement portion of the membership should be transferred; and
- The membership number of the WSFS Membership to be linked to the transferred attending membership, if known.
If you are transferring a discounted membership and the transferee does not meet the same conditions related to the rate reduction, the transferee will be asked to pay the difference between the two rates.
Do Memberships For Children Have Conditions Different From Adult Ones?
Yes. Canadian law stipulates that children (17 and under) may NOT buy their own memberships. A parent or guardian must purchase any memberships for children.
For all children (17 and under) the Emergency Contact Name(s) and phone number(s) must be the onsite parent or guardian and must be provided to the Montréal 2027 registration team. Badges will not be issued to children without this information.
Teens (14-17) can be unaccompanied by their parent/guardian (“free range”).
Fast Track Kids (8-13) can “free-range” if their parent or guardian signs a parental consent form which will be available at convention Registration. Fast Track Kids without a signed parental consent will be issued a badge which identifies that they may NOT “free-range”.
Kids-in-Tow (0-7) may not “free-range” the convention.
I have an access assistant that I need a badge for. How do I obtain one and what is the cost?
If your access assistant will not be a member of the convention but is there only to assist you, a badge will be created for that person to reflect this status. You will need to request this ahead of time by emailing registration@montreal2027.org or at the convention at Registration. There is no charge for this service. The access assistant badge will not allow any WSFS rights and is a courtesy we are pleased to offer. This also applies to childcare attendants such as nannies. Email if you have any questions.
I Lost My Badge. How Do I Replace it?
You can’t possibly have lost it yet. You need to have one to lose first! More information will be provided closer to the onsite convention date.
